Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve been hearing a lot of questions from non-Muslims about our religion. Students have asked us to post answers to some frequently asked questions because oftentimes, students don’t know exactly how to phrase an answer or how to explain certain things. We understand completely, as we have gone through this before! We will attempt to answer all the questions that we receive on the blog, but for now, two of our most common questions.

Can Muslims have boyfriends/girlfriends or date?

According to Muslims tradition, if a Muslim couple is interested in getting to know one another for the sake of marriage, they may do so, however it should be in the company of others. This prevents them from being tempted to do things that they might do when they are alone that they would not do in the presence of others.

Are men and women equal in Islam?

According to Islamic teachings, men and women are equal in Islam in every respect, including their spiritual nature, rights and  responsibilities as trustees of God and in their accountability in the Hereafter. The Qur’an states, “Whoever works in righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily to them will We give a new life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions” (16:97).
