Pope Appeals for More Interreligious Dialogue

Pope Appeals for More Interreligious Dialogue

The new Pope Francis has urged more dialogue with Islam. He says that relations with the Muslim world are critical and he wants Muslims to join in his objectives: “fighting poverty, building peace and establishing ‘true links of friendship between all people,’ by building bridges between them.” During Pope Benedict XVI’s papacy, relations between the Vatican and Islam were strained; however, the new Pope has declared that he wishes to improve relations.

Well, why should I care? It is essential that we, youth, take part in inter-religion relations. We are the future and working together with other religions is crucial for peace in the world. We hope that through patience and effort on our parts, inter-religious peace will someday be achieved.
